The Resilient Parenting Course

Parenting can be one of life’s greatest joys – and one of its greatest challenges.

When the people we love are struggling, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsure of what to do next. The good news is that there are practical ways to respond that can make a meaningful difference. In this course, you’ll learn practical ways to respond to emotions, shape behavior, strengthen connection, and build resilience. These skills are designed to help your loved one navigate life's challenges more effectively—and help you feel more grounded and confident along the way.

Over six weeks, we'll explore how resilience is built through the way we respond: first to ourselves, then to our loved ones, and ultimately to life's inevitable ups and downs.

Together, we'll learn how to respond in ways that strengthen resilience—so the people we love become better equipped to navigate life's challenges with confidence and courage.

Course Overview

Week 1

The Foundation

This week we'll build a foundation for resilient parenting. We'll explore why some people experience emotions more intensely than others, how resilience helps people navigate life's challenges, and how parents can respond in ways that strengthen resilience rather than unintentionally keeping everyone stuck.

You'll also learn the first essential steps of resilient parenting, along with practical strategies to help you begin putting these ideas into practice.

Week 2

Being Resilient

Our thoughts and reactions naturally influence the way we parent, especially during stressful moments. This week, we'll learn how resilient thinking helps us respond with greater steadiness and perspective, even when we're worried or uncertain. We'll also explore our natural parenting tendencies, noticing when we swing toward extremes and identifying one small step toward a more balanced, intentional way of responding.

Week 3

Resilient Emotions

Emotions aren't problems to fix—they're important sources of information. This week, we'll explore how to respond to intense emotions in ways that reduce emotional intensity, strengthen connection, and help our loved ones learn to navigate their emotions with greater confidence. As they become more capable of navigating their emotions, they develop one of the most important foundations of resilience.

Week 4

Resilient Behavior

When we're overwhelmed, it's harder to make choices that move us toward the life we want. We may avoid challenges, withdraw, or act impulsively. This week, we'll explore how everyday interactions shape behavior and how attention, encouragement, support, and practice can help people move toward greater confidence, independence, and resilience. We'll also learn how small, consistent responses can make a meaningful difference over time.

Week 5

Resilient Connections

Before we can connect effectively with others, we must first stay connected to ourselves. This week, we'll explore simple practices that help us care for ourselves while cultivating deeper connection with our loved one through everyday moments of attention, curiosity, understanding, and presence. Together, these small moments strengthen relationships and help resilience grow—for both ourselves and the people we love.

Week 6

The Resilient Parent’s Toolkit

In this final week, we'll bring together everything we've learned. We'll explore a simple, practical way of reflecting on everyday parenting experiences, learning from difficult moments without judgment, and recognizing what supports more resilient responses. Together, we'll develop a steady practice of returning to what matters most—connection, understanding, and growth. These become tools you can continue using long after the course ends.

Is This Course a Good Fit?

This course may be a good fit if you would like to:

  • Understand what's happening beneath your loved one's behavior.

  • Respond with greater steadiness and confidence.

  • Strengthen connection while responding with clarity and consistency

  • Develop practical skills you can use in everyday parenting.

  • Support resilience—for both yourself and your loved one.

This course may not be the best fit if you're looking for strategies that promise to quickly change or control another person's behavior. Instead, we'll focus on the one thing we can influence most: how we respond. From that place, positive change becomes much more likely.

What Parents Are Saying

“Since participating in the class I’m calmer, I listen more and my daughter responds more positively to me.

— Valerie

“I started to focus on me, making positive changes. Our home is so much more peaceful and happier. There’s more communication and trust.”

— Sara

“I feel much better equipped to deal with my child’s problems and I loved the opportunity to meet with other parents. It helps to know that I’m not alone!”

— John

“Jan and Joe really understand how to break down parenting with teens so that we can remember the simple joys of it. Their sessions brought me peace and confidence along with simple tools to help each day. I really appreciate that they made me look at myself first, realizing that in order to be an effective parent I have to start with me.”

— Brooke

I had almost given up hope that my daughter would learn to control her emotions enough to live a happy, normal life. Years of therapy wasn’t really helping. (We all know you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped). So I was thrilled to learn of this kind of class! I was able to help my daughter deal with her emotions in a different way-and with practice it made all the difference! And the things I learned helped every one of my relationships! I can’t say enough about Jan and Joe and how they encouraged me all along the way- touching base during the week and giving us practical skills we could use at home. I was sad when our class ended! This class absolutely changed our lives.”

— Whitney

“Jan created a calm, judgment-free space to learn and share alongside other parents who are also navigating the ups and downs of raising teens. The class helped shift how I think about parenting and gave me tools to better understand family dynamics. My spouse and I left with practical tools and resources to navigate common parenting challenges, along with strategies to manage our own stress and anxiety so we can be the healthiest parents possible.”

— Name, Title

“This class was a real game changer for me. I thought that I knew a lot about raising children. Now I know that I have a lot to learn and this class has set me on a path of learning that will continue to challenge me and enrich all my relationships. I was most surprised to discover that I was reinforcing the behaviors that I didn’t want and failing to reward those that were desired. I had never considered the use of behavioral principles. It’s so simple but totally counterintuitive for me. Most importantly, I now know that I must utilize these lessons in my own daily life before I will be the effective parent that I wish to be. I have found that validation is one of the powerful skills for enhancing trust and setting the stage for a teen to come to me for support. Thank you, Jan and Joe, for making this priceless information available.”

— Jack

“We’re engaged in more positive interactions.”

— Laura
